Here are the requirements I will cover in class: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5a, and 8.
Here are the requirements I would like the boys to take care of before class:
5b (Here is a link to an online magazine: http://www.coinworld.com/, and it can be accessed without having to subscribe or sign in).
6 (We will discuss the program in class. For the coins, pocket change, piggy banks, or any local bank can easily help meet this part of the requirement).
7 (We will discuss the mint marks and designer’s initials in class. For the coins, pocket change, piggy banks, or any local bank can easily help meet this part of the requirement).
9 (Unless the Scout already has what he needs, I recommend 9d. Pocket change, piggy banks, or any local bank can easily help meet this requirement).
10 (I will be using 10b, specifically the website of the U.S. Mint, for this requirement, and here is the link: http://www.usmint.gov/).
Not a requirement for the class, but I highly recommend each Scout purchasing and using the Whitman Boy Scout Merit Badge Coin Folder for badge requirements 6, 7, and 9. It also contains helpful information for some of the other badge requirements. Here is the link for ordering it from Whitman:
Or, the folder can be ordered from the Books-A-Million in Branson: phone number (417) 239-3702. It may be better to call the store and have them ship it to you. They normally only keep one folder on the shelf at the store.
